The world of cricket has been lucky enough to have witnessed a number of siblings representing their countries, the history books have been littered with them. Steve & Mark Waugh, Peter & Graeme Pollock, Andy & Grant Flower and of course Ian, Greg & Trevor Chappell to name a few.

The KNCB have taken this to a new level today with the announcement that Asad, the middle brother of the Zulfiqar triplets, will join his brothers Saqib and Sikander in the squad to face the United Arab Emirates in three One Day Matches in The Netherlands on July 17 (at VRA, Amsterdam), 19 (at Voorburg CC, The Hague) and 20 (at VOC, Rotterdam). Asad, an opening batsman for ACC, has been in a rich vein of form in the Topklasse competition with 398 runs at 66.33, including 123 not out.

Netherlands Head Coach Ryan Campbell had this to say about his selection:

”I can’t say it enough, we will reward outstanding performances and young Asad gave us no choice but to select him. His form in both the Topklasse and for Netherlands A has been really consistent and his technique I believe will stand up at international level as a top order player, he has a big future for us and I’m sure his parents are over the moon to have three of their sons represent The Netherlands”.

Another new addition to the squad that will face UAE, is VOC off spinner Umar Baker, who gets his opportunity to press his claims in the absence of front line spinners Roelof van der Merwe, Michael Rippon and the injured Peter Seelaar.

“Umar is another who has impressed me in both Pro Series & Topklasse matches, it’s a great opportunity for him. I believe with Umar, Saqib and Max O’dowd in the squad, we have enough spin bowling options to accompany our fast bowling group, a group that showed excellent skills against Zimbabwe”.

The Netherlands Squad to play United Arab Emirates:

Peter Borren (capt.), Wesley Barresi, Ben Cooper, Asad Zulfiqar, Frederick Klaassen, Stephan Myburgh, Max O`Dowd, Shane Snater, Logan van Beek, Tobias Visée, Saqib Zulfiqar, Sikander Zulfiqar, Umar Baker, Paul Van Meekeren.
