GT20 - Shadab Khan and Anshuman Rath star in Edmonton Royals' first GT19 win
Anshuman Rath, who got an opportunity to open for the Royals, displayed his talent with a 50-ball unbeaten 87. At just 21 years of age, Rath has been made the captain of the Hong Kong national team and he showed just why.
Winnipeg Hawks 195-6
Edmonton Royals 198-2
Edmonton Royals won by 8 wickets
The start that Winnipeg Hawks' got was as good as it gets as they reached 100 for no loss in the ninth over. The first wicket came in the form of Shaiman Anwar who departed after making 62 from 35 balls.
Anwar had missed the UAE tour of Netherlands because of the ongoing Global T20 Canada League and it would be worth it only when he could make an impact here.
Chris Lynn was dismissed soon after. Skipper JP Duminy then took matters in his hands with a 31-ball 48 to take the Hawks to 195 despite some good bowling from Ben Cutting and Shadab Khan, who shared five wickets between themselves.
However, even that target did not prove big enough as Anshuman Rath, who got an opportunity to open for the Royals, displayed his talent with a 50-ball unbeaten 87. At just 21 years of age, Rath has been made the captain of the Hong Kong national team and he showed just why.
Skipper Mohammad Hafeez also took responsibility with a well-compiled half-century. Jimmy Neesham then closed off the match with a few boundaries as the Royals won by eight wickets.
