IPL 2023, Qualifier 2, Gujarat Titans vs Mumbai Indians: Gill's magic takes Gujarat into second straight final

Gujarat Titans made their way into their second consecutive final of the Indian Premier League (IPL) after their 62 run win against Mumbai Indians at the Narendra Modi International Stadium in Ahmedabad on Friday.

Put into bat first, the defending champion posted a gigantic total of 233 for three while on the other side, Mumbai could only post 171 runs.

Gujarat was off to a flyer with the bat as Wriddhiman Saha (18: 16b, 3x4) along with Shubman Gill stitched 54 runs for the opening partnership. It was Gill’s classic after that as he made everyone including the opposition dugout stand and applaud him for his magnificent performance. In what was his third century in the last 11 days, he made Mumbai bowlers look clueless and tonked them all over the park. He scored 129 runs off 60 balls to go with seven boundaries and ten sixes and also became the leading run-getter this season with 851 runs to his name. Sai Sudharsan (43 retd out: 31b, 5x4, 1x6) and skipper Hardik Pandya (28 not out, 13b, 2x4, 2x6) complemented him well as Gujarat posted a total of 233 runs.

Chasing the big total, Mumbai lost the services of Ishan Kishan as he was out due to the injury he faced in the first innings. Nehal Wadhera came out to open the innings with skipper Rohit Sharma but the duo were back in the hut early for just 21 runs. Tilak Varma played a blistering cameo of 43 runs in 14 balls with the help of five boundaries and three sixes, stitching 51 runs partnership for the third wicket with Suryakumar Yadav. Cameron Green chipped in with the crucial knock of 30 runs off 20 balls with the help of two boundaries and two sixes and stitched 52 runs for the 4th wicket with Yadav, who kept Mumbai in the hunt with his valiant half-century. He scored 61 runs in 38 balls with the help of seven boundaries and two sixes but his wicket in the 15th over ended the hopes of Mumbai fans. Gujarat then chipped in wickets quickly and folded the opposition for just 171 to win the game by 62 runs. For Gujarat Mohit Sharma was the pick of the bowlers with his figures of five for ten.
