Hampshire post 361/4 after Vince, Adams century
Hampshire 361-4 (Adams 144) v Surrey
County Championship Division One, The Oval, day one
Jimmy Adams and James Vince made most of the batting day at The Oval scoring their respective centuries as Hampshire went on to amass 361 for four at stumps in the County Championship Division One face-off against Surrey at The Oval.
Hampshire won the toss and without much hesitation opted to bat first.
The Curran brothers, Sam (1-53) and Tom (2-71) provided early breakthrough for Surrey with the wickets of Lewis McCanus (13) and Rilee Rossouw (28) leaving the visitors at 71 for two at the stroke of lunch.
Adams (144), who was looking good was joined by Vince (104) and the duo negated the entire second session with calm display and eventually went on to add 161 runs for the third wicket to lay a solid platform for Hampshire.
Vince, whose runs came at a strike-rate of 80 was caught behind off Tom on reaching his century but Adams added another valiant 129 run partnership for the fourth wicket with skipper George Bailey (61 not out).
In the final delivery before stumps, Surrey managed to get rid of Adams with Amar Virdi (1-84) castling him but Bailey crossed another half-century as Hampshire ended day one at 361 for four.
