New South Wales seamer Henry Thornton has been named as the replacement for Australian left-arm-quick Mitchell Starc in the Sydney Sixers squad for the upcoming campaign of Big Bash League after the latter is busy with national commitments.

Starc is currently part of the Australian squad for the three-match Test series against Pakistan and is expected to also feature in the five match One-Day International series as well which will be played between 13th and 26 January.

Thornton, 20 has played five List A matches for Australia Under-19 against England Under-19 where he picked 13 wickets in April last year.

Meanwhile, Sydney Sixers have replaced Chris Hartley, who is injured with Jay Lenton.

Both Thornton and Lenton were named in the reserve for the opening game of the BBL for Sydney Sixers and Sydney Thunders respectively.

However, Starc and Hartley can walk into their respective sides once they are available to play.

Sydney Sixers had won the toss and opted to field first in their opening encounter against Sydney Thunders at Spotless Stadium on Tuesday.
