Christmas and the New Year was a time to catch up with relatives, take a break and watch plenty of sport, but there was still plenty to talk about in the world of cricket.
In the final Around The Grounds feature of our favourite tweets and images of 2013 (with some 2014 tweets thrown in too), we pick up on the holiday spirit.
From Christmas to New Year being the season of goodwill and merriment, it was also the season of retirements as first Graeme Swann and Jacques Kallis surprised a few people by calling time on their careers (although Kallis will continue to play One-Day International cricket).
There were plenty of tributes to the key roles both have played for their countries - Swann helping England win the ICC World Twenty20, three Ashes series and both helping their sides reach the top of the Test match rankings.
The Ashes continued with another heavy defeat for England in Melbourne but it was much closer in Johannesburg, where South Africa looked to be on course to chase down 458 to beat India in the first Test before late wickets meant they chose to block the final three overs, closing eight runs short.
