Home bound Dhammika Prasad in doubt for remainder of England tour
Sri Lanka’s tour of England has received a fresh setback as pace bowler Dhammika Prasad is set to return home for further assessment of his shoulder injury which has ruled him out of the ongoing first Test match in Leeds.
Prasad suffered the injury during Sri Lanka’s tour match against Essex and the nature of his injury has not been decisively ascertained after the tests turned out inconclusive.
The team manager of Sri Lanka, Charith Senanayake confirmed that Prasad will fly home and expressed doubts over the availability of the 32-year-old for the rest of the tour.
“After yesterday’s fitness test, the management took a decision that he would be sent back for further treatment.
“It’s the prevailing injury. He was to do another test today, but yesterday we tested him at training and he still couldn’t bowl.”
Sri Lanka will surely miss the services of Prasad, who was their premier fast bowler in the year 2015 where he picked 41 wickets at an average of 24.95.
If Sri Lanka opt to pick a replacement for Prasad, Kasun Rajitha and Vishwa Fernando will be among the front runners for the spot after being named in the training squad prior to the tour.
