I feel very happy for Rahane - Sachin Tendulkar
Cricket Legend, Sachin Tendulkar, extended his wishes to the newly appointed captain Ajinkya Rahane, who is slated to lead India in the upcoming series against Zimbabwe, which kicks off on 10th July in Harare.
Rahane, who has so far featured in 55 One-Day Internationals, has scored 1593 runs at an average of 30.63 with two hundreds and nine fifties.
This record pales in comparison to his exploits in Test cricket, where Rahane averages 47.00 with three hundreds and seven fifties in just 15 games.
Indian selectors have given Rahane a chance to show his mettle while they decided to rest senior players like MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli and Suresh Raina among others.
Praising Rahane for his hard-working nature, Tendulkar said he was impressed by the commitment and dedication shown by the 27-year-old.
“I feel very happy for Ajinkya. He is a sincere and hardworking cricketer. I have always been impressed with his commitment and dedication,” Tendulkar told PTI.
Tendulkar also wished Rahane the best for the upcoming series while expressing confidence that he will bring success for the team.
“I am sure he will give his best and give us a reason to be proud of him. I wish him all the best.”
This will be the first time in 15 years that a player from Mumbai will lead the Indian team in ODIs after Tendulkar relinquished captaincy in 2000.
India will be touring Zimbabwe for a series comprising of three ODIs and two Twenty20 Internationals which will be played between 10th and 19th July.
