ICC T20 WC: Buttler powers England to fourth straight win

England registered their fourth win in the Super 12 stage of the ICC T20 World Cup when they beat Sri Lanka by 26 runs at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium in Sharjah.

On Monday night, England batted first and posted 163 for four. In reply Sri Lanka was bowled out for 137 in 19 overs.

England lost three quick wickets to slip to 35 for three within the powerplay itself. Jason Roy, Dawid Malan and Jonny Bairstow were dismissed swiftly. England's innings was then revived by an excellent stand between vice-captain Jos Buttler and Eoin Morgan. Buttler and Morgan added 112 runs for the fourth wicket. Morgan also passed a milestone of 500 runs in T20 World Cups for England. Morgan was finally dismissed for 40 off 36 balls with three sixes and a four. On the other hand, Buttler carried on, smacking bowlers at will. He reached his hundred off the final ball of the innings with a massive six. Buttler ended on an unbeaten 101 off 67 balls with six boundaries and six sixes. For Sri Lanka the only bowler to create any sort of impact was leg-spinner Wanindu Hasaranga.

In their response, Sri Lanka lost quick wickets and they were reduced to 57 for four. Bhanuka Rajapaksa then took charge with captain Dasun Shanaka. Then after Rajapaksa fell, Shanaka and Wanindu Hasaranga allied well. Shanaka and Hasaranga added 53 runs for the sixth wicket. Hasaranga was looking to get aggressive and fell just at the moment it felt like that he was taking off for 34. Then Shanaka fell soon after. The innings then slipped from 129 for five to 137 all out as Sri Lanka was bowled out in 19 overs.

For England, Moeen Ali (2-15), Adil Rashid (2-19) and Chris Jordan (2-24) were the best bowlers.
