ICC T20 WC: England start campaign with comprehensive win










England started their campaign in the T20 World Cup 2021 with a comprehensive six wicket win over West Indies in their opening Super 12 Group 1 clash.
At the Dubai International Stadium, defending champion West Indies after being asked to bat was shot out for a mere 55 in 14.2 overs and England chased down the target in just 8.2 overs to finish on 56 for four.
Earlier, West Indies batting struggled all the way through as they lost wickets at regular intervals. West Indies' superstar Chris Gayle was the only one to enter double figures and was the top scorer with 12. The other batsmen struggled all the way in the face of some accurate English bowling. There were no partnerships of note as England bowlers controlled the proceedings. West Indies was finally shot out for just 55 in 14.3 overs.
For England the best bowler was Adil Rashid with figures of four for two in just 22 overs. The other wicket-takers were Moeen Ali (2-17) and Tymal Mills (2-17).
The chase for England was bumpy as the lost their top-order quite cheaply. They lost four wickets along the way as England moved towards the target. Akeal Hosein bowled well for West Indies as he picked two wickets for 24 runs. But despite the constant loss of wickets, England managed to overhaul the target in 8.2 overs to finish on 56 for four. The top-scorer for England was Jos Buttler who finihed on an unbeaten 24.
