Zimbabwe started their campaign in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup with a 31 run win over Ireland in a Group B first round match at the Bellerive Oval in Hobart on Monday afternoon.

Asked to bat, Zimbabwe posted 174 for seven in their 20 overs and in response Ireland made 143 for nine in their 20 overs.

Earlier, Zimbabwe innings was tottering at 37 for three. Then Sean Williams teamed up with Sikandar Raza for the fourth wicket. The pair added 42 runs for the fourth wicket. Raza then added a futher 58 runs for the fifth wicket with Milton Shumba. Raza carried on till the 20th over. He finished on 82 off 48 balls with five boundaries and five sixes. Zimbabwe finished on 174 for seven in their 20 overs. For Ireland the best bowlers were Josh Little (3-24), Mark Adair (2-39) and Simi Singh (2-31).

In their response, Ireland were reduced to 22 for four. Then there was a 42 run stand for the fifth wicket between George Dockrell and Curtis Campher. Ireland lost Campher soon after. The innings went into a tailspin as they slipped from 102 for six to 111 for nine. The last wicket pair of Barry McCarthy (22 n.o.) and Little added 32 runs. Ireland finished on 143 for nine in their 20 overs. For Zimbabwe the best bowlers were Blessing Muzarabani (3-23), Tendai Chatara (2-22) and Richard Ngarava (2-22).
