ICC T20 WC: Shakib stars as Bangladesh seal Super 12 spot

Bangladesh sealed their spot in the Super 12 stage of the ICC T20 World Cup with a massive 84 run win over Papua New Guinea (PNG) in their final Group B match.

Bangladesh after opting to bat first posted 181 for seven in their 20 overs and in response PNG were shot out for a mere 97 in 19.3 overs.

Earlier, Shakib Al Hasan (46) and Liton Das (29) shared a 50 run second wicket stand to put Bangladesh innings on track. Thereafter, captain Mahmudullah (50: 28b, 3x4, 3x6) took charge where Bangladesh despite a collapse managed to stabilise themselves.

Afif Hossain used the long handle to good effect as Bangladesh ended on a high.

For PNG the wickets were shared around by Kabua Morea (2-26), Damien Ravu (2-40) and captain Assad Vala (2-26).

The chase for PNG never really took off. They were reduced to 29 for seven. Then Kiplin Doriga who played a lone hand as he finished on unbeaten 46 off 34 balls. But the rest of the batting just did not put up a fight. PNG was finally bowled out for 97 in 19.3 overs.

For Bangladesh the wicket-takers were Shakib (4-9), Mohammad Saifuddin (2-21) and Taskin Ahmed (2-12).
