Ind v Afg, Super 4 Match 5, Asia Cup: Kohli's maiden hundred, Kumar's magic spells doom for Afghanistan

Virat Kohli's first T20 International hundred and Bhuvneshwar Kumar's magical spell helped India end their Asia Cup campaign in fine style with a 101-run win over Afghanistan on Thursday night.

After being asked to bat, India posted a massive 212 for two in their 20 overs and in response Afghanistan finished on 111 for eight in their 20 overs.

This was India and Afghanistan's final Super 4 game in Asia Cup 2022.

Earlier, Kohli started off the innings in a brilliant fashion with stand-in captain Lokesh Rahul (62: 41b, 6x4, 2x6). The duo added 119 runs for the first wicket. Kohli then teed off in the company of Rishabh Pant as they two added 97 runs for the third wicket in an unbroken stand. Kohli struck fours and sixes at will as he became the second highest run-getter in T20 Internationals. Kohli finished unbeaten on 122 off 61 balls with 12 boundaries and six sixes. This was Kohli's first T20 International hundred and was his first hundred at the international level after November 2019. India finished on a massive 212 for two in their 20 overs.

In their response, Bhuvneshwar Kumar struck early blows in the Afghanistan chase. Kumar dismissed openers Hazratullah Zazai and Rahmanullah Gurbaz in the first over. Then Kumar struck in the third over of the innings dismissed Karim Janat and Najibullah Zadran. Then before the powerplay was done, Afghanistan were five down for 21. Thereafter the innings went into a slow meltdown as Afghanistan continued to lose wickets at regular intervals. In the end Afghanistan finished on 111 for eight in their 20 overs. Kumar was India's best bowler with figures of five for four, his best spell in T20 Internationals. Ibrahim Zadran finished unbeaten on 64 off 59 balls with four boundaries and two sixes.
