India have gone on to claim the top spot in the International Cricket Council One-Day International Rankings following their win in Port Elizabeth.

Virat Kohli's side maintained the pressure on South Africa that saw them complete a 73-run victory in the fifth game while defending 275 that saw them register their maiden ODI series victory in the rainbow nation.

India started the series with 119 points but now with their 4-1 lead have now gained three points to take their tally to 122 while South Africa have lost three rating points and are now at the second place with 118.

Even if the Proteas went on to win the final game of the series in Centurion on Friday, their efforts will not be enough to dethrone India from the top position, which they have achieved for the fifth time since the inception.

England will have an opportunity to claim the second place from South Africa if they manage to beat Black Caps 5-0 in their upcoming ODI series in New Zealand.

Meanwhile, Afghanistan's win in Sharjah in the third ODI has taken them to the 10th place in the rankings ahead of their opponents Zimbabwe. However, for Asghar Stanikzai's men to maintain that position, they need to win the five-game series which is poised 2-1 in favour of Afghanistan.
