West Indies limited India to 279-7 after the visitors chose to bat first at the historic Queen’s Park Oval. After a rain delay, the home side was set a revised target of 270 off 46 overs. They were at one stage 179-4 but slipped to be all out for 210, as India won by 59 runs (DLS Method).

Opener Evin Lewis top scored with 65 off 80 balls – eight boundaries and a six over square-leg – to follow up from his 40 not out in the first ODI in Guyana last Thursday. He shared a crucial fourth-wicket stand of 56 with Nicholas Pooran, who made 42 off 52 balls – four boundaries and a six.

Earlier, Chris Gayle became the first West Indian to make 300 ODI appearances and also became the all-time highest West Indian run-scorer. The 39-year-old, who made his debut against India in Toronto 20 years ago, scored 11 in an opening stand of 45 with Lewis. This moved him to 10,408 career runs – and took him ahead of Brian Lara who scored 10,405 runs in 299 matches.

In the first half of the match, India’s total was built around captain Virat Kohli – who made 120 off 125 balls – his 42nd ODI century. Carlos Brathwaite was the best bowler for West Indies with 3-53 off his 10 overs.
