For all of us who were frustrated with KKR’s decision to pick Vinay Kumar ahead of the raw pace of Kamlesh Nagarkoti , the rationale has finally been disclosed.

The fact of the matter is that Nagarkoti had picked up a foot injury much before the start of the IPL season but KKR were hopeful of his quick recovery. However, things did not go as per plan and the fast bowling sensation had to be ruled out of the entire tournament.

Karnataka pacer Prasidh Krishna, who had been kept as his backup option has been finally named his replacement. Krishna, a 22-year-old pacer, has featured in only one first-class match but has picked up 6 wickets in 3 T20s and 33 wickets in 19 List A games that he has played.

Due to Nagarkoti’s doubtful state, KKR also played the young Karnataka pacer in two practice matches in which he fared well. Krishna is not gifted with the same pace as that of Nagarkoti but the lanky pacer is capable of causing problems for the batsmen by hitting the deck hard.

Part of the famous Indian U 19 pace bowling duo comprising of himself and Shivam Mavi, Nagarkoti was bagged by KKR at a hefty price of 3.2 crore.

With Mitchell Starc already ruled out, Nagarkoti’s injury has further trimmed down KKR’s pace bolwing resources. The onus now rests on the able shoulders of Mitchell Johnson, Tom Curran and Shivam Mavi to put up notable performances for their franchise.
