Injured Kusal Perera out of Champions Trophy
Sri Lanka wicket-keeper batsman Kusal Perera has been ruled out of the ongoing ICC Champions Trophy following a hamstring injury that he sustained during the recently concluded game against India at Kennington Oval .
Perera suffered the blow while he was batting and eventually decided to retire hurt after he notched a 47-run knock off just 44 deliveries. The innings from Perera proved vital as Sri Lanka completed a chase of 322 runs in 48.4 overs and are now in contention to make it to the semi-finals.
Replacing Perera in the squad will be Dhananjaya de Silva, who will be making a comeback into the squad after last featuring in the ODI series in South Africa in February.
"The Event Technical Committee of the ICC Champions Trophy 2017 has approved Dhananjaya de Silva as a replacement player for Kusal Perera in the Sri Lanka squad for the tournament," read a statement released by the International Cricket Council.
Sri Lanka will face Pakistan in the final game of the group stage in Cardiff on Monday with the winner progressing to the semi-final to take on England.
