Game two of the Indian Premier League 2012 sees the Kolkata Knight Riders host the Delhi Daredevils which is a mouth-watering prospect early in the tournament, throwing Indian openers Gautam Gambhir (Kolkata) and Virender Sehwag (Delhi) up against each other.
Krishna PV previews the match at Eden Gardens.
Kolkata Knight Riders - strengths and weaknesses:
The Knight Riders team is a very balanced unit with plenty of in-form all rounders, and the addition of Sunil Narine and Brendon McCullum can only strengthen their squad. The top order looks strong with Jacques Kallis and McCullum followed by the solid Gambhir.
The middle order has some big hitters and game changers like Yusuf pathan, Manoj Tiwary and the Bangladeshi star Shakib Al Hasan as well as in-form local player Rajat Bhatia who will eager to perform well and get into the National team.
The seam bowling looks bright with Lee and young Indian bowler Jaydev Unadkat and the spin bowling ranks have been boosted by Narine, who will be joined by Iqbal Abdullah who has been knocking on the selector's door since last season.
Delhi Daredevils - strengths and weaknesses
The biggest strength of Delhi is their captain Virender Sehwag and their all-rounder Andre Russell. However, they will be mising their key foreign players - Kevin Pietersen, Mahela jayawardane and David Warner who are on duty with their national sides.
The bowling has little variation. It is a seam-heavy team with Morne Morkel, Umesh Yadav, Varun Aaron, Ajit Agarkar and Irfan Pathan all performing similar roles. Furthermore, the team has got only one genuine spinner in Roelof van der Merwe.
Last season, the two teams met at the Feroz Shah Kotla. Manoj Tiwary's 61 from 47 balls helped Kolkata to a decent score of 148 and Delhi were never in the chase after they lost both Sehwag and Warner early.
Head To Head
In the seven matches between the two sides, Kolkata have won three, Delhi have won three and one match was cancelled due to rain.
Sehwag vs Lee
It will be interesting to see how Sehwag handles Lee after Lee got the upper hand over Sehwag during the recent Commonwealth Bank Series in Australia.
Players To Watch
Virender Sehwag will be rearing to go after being rested for the Asia Cup. However, he has to prove himself after disappointing tours of England and Australia with India.
Jacques Kallis will be another player to watched out for. The way he plays after his recent retirement from Twenty20 International cricket could make or break Kolkata's season.
Another important issue to be noted is the turn out of the crowd. The last match between England and India at the Eden gardens was half-full and it will be interesting to see the support this time with the Kolkata crowd passionate about their cricket.
