Rajasthan Royals 117 (Singh 3-13) by 7 wickets
Indian Premier League 2013, Bangalore
Report by Chetan Narula

Royal Challengers Bangalore continued their winning run at home, with a dominant seven wicket win over Rajasthan Royals at Bangalore. The Challengers move to the top spot in the points table, with ten points from five wins in seven matches. Rajasthan meanwhile are in fourth spot, with eight points, after four wins in six matches.

Bangalore won the toss and skipper Virat Kohli opted to field first. It paid off immediately as Shane Watson (6) was caught superbly by Murali Kartik off Ravi Rampaul (2-19). For once Ajinkya Rahane (19) also failed and both openers were back with score at 26 for two.

Rahul Dravid and Stuart Binny then shared a 40-run stand for the third wicket, with the runs coming in just 28 balls. Binny was the aggressor here, scoring 33 runs off just 20 balls, with four fours and one six. Dravid meanwhile accumulated his runs, 35 off 33 balls, with five fours. Binny was removed by R Vinay Kumar (3-18), and then Dravid added 31 runs with Brad Hodge (13).

But once Dravid was fourth out, to Kartik (1-35), in the 15th over, Rajasthan collapsed as their last six wickets fell for just twenty runs thereafter. RP Singh was the wrecker-in-chief with three for 13 as Rajasthan Royals were bowled out for just 117 runs. Jaidev Unadkat was the other lone wicket taker with figures of one for 32.

With Chris Gayle to bat, 118 was never going to be enough and this time Bangalore had paired him with Tilakratne Dilshan. The returning Lankan scored 25 runs off 22 balls, with five fours, as the opening duo put on 53 runs for the first wicket, before Shane Watson (2-11) enforced a double strike. He sent back AB DeVilliers (7) as well and in between James Faulkner (1-21) got rid of Kohli (1) as there were some nervy moments for Bangalore.

But Gayle stood there till the end, and while he was there, defeat was never really a fear. The hard hitting West Indian scored a sedate 49 not out off 45 balls, with four fours and one six. Giving him company was Saurabh Tiwary, who made 25 runs in his first innings of this 2013 IPL.

He used 29 balls, hitting two fours and one six, putting up 53 runs with Gayle and steered Bangalore to the victory mark with 13 balls to spare.
