IPL 2020: 5 young Indian batsmen to watch out for
Here's listing five young Indian batsmen who are expected to be among the top run-scorers in IPL 2020:
Priyam Garg led the Indian under 19 team to the final of the 2020 ICC under 19 World Cup which the team lost against Bangladesh. Garg showed his batting prowess with a half-century in India's World Cup fixture against Sri Lanka.
The batsman has been a prolific run scorer for Uttar Pradesh in the Ranji Trophy. He struck a century on his Ranji Trophy debut and then amassed 814 runs from 10 games at an average of over 65 in the season.
Garg was noticed by Rahul Dravid, the Indian under 19 head coach, and led the team successfully. He has been bagged by Sunrisers Hyderabad for INR 1.90 crore and will bat in the middle order.
Abdul Samad has gained a lot of popularity among fanatic Indian cricket fans in a short time. The J&K batting sensation is renowned for his big-hitting and was hand-picked by Sunrisers Hyderabad head coach VVS Laxman.
Samad averages 40.00 in domestic T20 cricket and strikes at over 135. Even in First-class cricket and List A cricket where batsmen tend to bat a bit more cautiously, he strikes at well over run a ball. The J&K batsman will play the finisher's role for Sunrisers Hyderabad and will probably bat at number 6.
Yashasvi Jaiswal has dominated every level of cricket that he has played in and is the next big thing to come out of Indian cricket as far as batting is concerned. The 18-year-old averages 70.81 from 13 List A matches and has already struck a double century.
He was the top run-scorer in the 2020 ICC under 19 World Cup with 400 runs from 6 matches at an average of 133.33 and a strike rate of 82.47. Jaiswal struck one century and four half-centuries in his six appearances. He will open the batting for Rajasthan Royals alongside Jos Buttler.
Devdutt Padikkal has everyone excited. The young Kerala opener has been picked by Royal Challengers Bangalore and is expected to open the batting for them. Padikkal was in red-hot form during the 50-over Vijay Hazare Trophy and the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy.
In SMA, the 20-year-old struck 580 runs at a strike rate of over 175. Devdutt Padikkal will hope to take some load of Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers as he gears up to bat in the top order.
Ruturaj Gaikwad has been the most prolific run-getter for India A over the last couple of years with 843 runs from 15 innings at a strike rate of 105. Chennai Super Kings captain MS Dhoni has called him a 'sharp cricket mind'.
Gaikwad can benefit from the absence of Suresh Raina and can be slotted at either number 3 or at the top in the CSK batting order.
