IPL 2020: Rohit Sharma leads the way for easy Mumbai win
In what was the first one-sided match of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020, Mumbai Indians beat Kolkata Knight Riders by 49 runs at the Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi.
The star of the show for Mumbai after they were asked to bat was their captain Rohit Sharma. Leading from the front, Sharma struck 80 off 54 balls with three boundaries and six sixes. He shared a 90-run second wicket stand with Surya Kumar Yadav (47: 28b, 6x4, 1x6). He was sapped for energy owing to tough conditions in Abu Dhabi. Towards the end of the innings, Hardik Pandya (18) and Kieron Pollard (13 n.o..) struck some lusty blows to lead Mumbai Indians to 195 for five in their 20 overs.
For Knight Riders, their best bowler was young fast bowler Shivam Mavi (2-32).
The chase for Kolkata never really took off. They lost wickets at regular intervals. Captain Dinesh Karthik (30: 23b, 5x4) and Nitish Rana (24: 18b, 2x4, 1x6) shared a 46-run third wicket stand. But they lost wickets at regular intervals and lost their way. Pat Cummins struck some lusty blows towards the end striking 33 off 12 balls with one boundary and four sixes. But that was not enough to deny Mumbai an easy win as Kolkata ended at 146 for nine in their 20 overs. For Mumbai, the wickets were shared around by Trent Boult (2-30), James Pattinson (2-25), Jasprit Bumrah (2-32) and Rahul Chahar (2-26).
