IPL 2020: Shaw, bowlers lead Capitals to compact win
Delhi Capitals registered a comprehensive 44 run win over Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League (IPL) thanks to a fine show by opener Prithvi Shaw and their bowlers at the Dubai International Stadium on Friday evening.
Asked to bat, Delhi posted 175 for three in their 20 overs. The star for Delhi was Prithvi Shaw (64: 43b, 9x4, 1x6). Shaw shared a 94 run opening wicket stand with Shikhar Dhawan (35: 27b, 3x4, 1x6). Later, Rishabh Pant (37 n.o.: 25b, 5x4) along with captain Shreyas Iyer (26) put together 58 for the third wicket. For Chennai, the main wicket-taker was leg-spinner Piyush Chawla (2-33).
In their chase, Chennai lost wickets at regular intervals. Their openers failed yet again. It was then down to Faf du Plessis (43) to yet again hold the innings together. For a while du Plessis and Kedar Jadhav (26) shared a 54 run third wicket stand to delay the inevitable. Mahendra Singh Dhoni yet again turned up very late in the innings. It was all over in the end in a tame fashion as Chennai finished on 131 for seven in their 20 overs.
For Delhi, Kagiso Rabada (3-26) and Anrich Nortje (2-21) were the best bowlers.
