Mumbai Indians vs Kolkata Knight Riders, Indian Premier League 2021
Mumbai Indians: 152/10 (20 overs)
Kolkata Knight Riders: 142/7 (20 overs)
Result: Mumbai Indians won the game by 10 runs
Kolkata Knight Riders won the toss and elected to field first. Quinton De Kock perished cheaply for 2 runs. Post that, Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav stitched an important 2nd wicket partnership of 76 runs. Until that point, Mumbai Indians looked well in control of the game. Suryakumar Yadav was dismissed by Shakib Al Hasan after making valuable 56 runs for the team. Ishan Kishan could not impress much as he fell for 2 runs. His wicket triggered an unbelievable collapse and Mumbai Indians went from 86 for 2 to 152 all out. Andre Russell bowled with pace and fire as he claimed 5 wickets for just 15 runs. Mumbai Indians batters did not have any answer to the questions raised by him with the ball.
FALL OF WICKETS
10-1 (Quinton de Kock, 1.6), 86-2 (Suryakumar Yadav, 10.3), 88-3 (Ishan Kishan, 11.1), 115-4 (Rohit Sharma, 15.2), 123-5 (Hardik Pandya, 16.2), 125-6 (Kieron Pollard, 17.2), 126-7 (Marco Jansen, 17.3), 150-8 (Krunal Pandya, 19.3), 150-9 (Jasprit Bumrah, 19.4), 152-10 (Rahul Chahar, 19.6)
Chasing 152, Kolkata Knight Riders got off to a brilliant start as the opening pair of Shubman Gill and Nitish Rana put on 72 runs for the first wicket. Shubman Gill was dismissed by Rahul Chahar after making 33 runs. Nitish Rana held one end together and kept finding the gaps in the field with ease. Rahul Chahar provided 2 more breakthroughs to keep Mumbai in the game. However, Rohit Sharma’s over that went for 9 runs shifted the momentum towards Kolkata Knight Riders. A real turning point came in the 15th over when Rahul Chahar removed Nitish Rana for 57 to take his 4th wicket and Mumbai Indians started sniffing hope. Krunal Pandya kept a leash on the batters and barely leaked any runs in his 4 over spell. Jasprit Bumrah and Trent Boult were vested with the responsibility to bowl the 19th and the 20th over. With Andre Russell at the crease and 15 runs needed off the last over, you would fancy Kolkata to get over the line. However, Trent Boult had different plans as he executed the slower ones well and claimed the wickets of Andre Russell and Pat Cummins to put an extreme pressure on Kolkata. In the end, Mumbai Indians restricted Kolkata Knight Riders at 142/7, winning the match by 10 runs. It was a massive turnaround by Mumbai Indians and this win will definitely boost their confidence for the upcoming games.
