Royal Challengers Bangalore 149/8 (20 overs)
Sunrisers Hyderabad 143/9 (20 overs)
Result: Royal Challengers Bangalore won the match by 6 runs
Sunrisers Hyderabad won the toss and elected to field first. Jason Holder and Bhuvneshwar Kumar bowled with beautiful lines and did not provide enough room to the batsmen to free their arms. Virat Kohli and Devdutt Paddikal looked unsure about the variations and both took a long time to get going. Paddikal was dismissed at 11 by Bhuvneshwar Kumar. Jason Holder accounted for the big wicket of Virat Kohli while Rashid Khan dismissed one of the greatest batsmen of all time, AB De Villers. By then, Royal Challengers Bangalore looked like losing grip of the game. Glenn Maxwell played a very timely knock of 59 off 41 deliveries to ensure his team gets to a decent total. Apart from Maxwell, none of the other batters looked convincing on the Chennai track. In the end, Royal Challengers Bangalore posted a modest total of 149 for 8 in 20 overs. Jason Holder was the top wicket taker as he picked up 3 wickets for 30 runs in his spell of 4 overs.

Half way through the match, Sunrisers Hyderabad looked completely on top and they were hot favourites. The opener, Wriddhiman Saha lost his wicket early on after scoring 1 run in 9 deliveries. Despite the early wicket, David Warner looked completely in control throughout the powerplay overs. He stitched a valuable partnership of 83 runs for the 2nd wicket with Manish Pandey. After the dismissal of David Warner, Sunrisers Hyderabad simply fell like a pack of cards. Rashid Khan was the only batter in the middle order who threatened to give a fight to the opposition. He scored 17 runs off 9 balls and while he was still there, there was hope. He ran himself out in a dramatic fashion in the 20th over and Sunrisers Hyderabad ended up losing the match by 6 runs. Shahbaz Ahmed was the pick of the bowlers as he accounted for 3 wickets in 2 overs.
