In the absence of the Pandya brothers, Quinton de Kock and Trent Boult, Mumbai have been considerably weakened.

Prediction Tips

Top Batters Runs Aggregate - Rohit Sharma or Kieron Pollard

Top Bowlers Wickets Taken -  Tymal Mills or Jasprit Bumrah,

Breaking the bank for Kishan, David

If one team has been the worst affected due to the mega auction, it has to be Mumbai Indians. The most successful franchise in the IPL had to let go of the likes of Quinton de Kock, the Pandya brothers and Trent Boult which weakened their squad considerably.

To add to that, Mumbai decided to splurge 15.25 crore for Ishan Kishan and 8.25 crore for the lesser-known Singapore all rounder Tim David which left them short of funds at the auctions.

A lot of holes to plug

As a result, Mumbai have a lot of holes in their XI this time around and big names like Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav, Kieron Pollard and Jasprit Bumrah will have to be at the top of their game in order to cover for these weaknesses.

In what is being called a masterstroke, Mumbai bought Jofra Archer for just 2 crores. Obviously, the England tearaway will not be available for the franchise this year but it can turn out to be a real visionary idea if he regains his fitness from the next year onwards.

Sams and Mills - MI's overseas pace options

Mumbai have also roped in Australian fast bowling all rounder Daniel Sams who is known for his slower deliveries and can also use the long handle to good effect.

Tymal Mills made a splash in the IPL a few years ago and it will be interesting to see whether his second coming can bring the anticipated success for him.

Weak middle order, no leading spinner

That said, the Rohit Sharma led side will know that they have a lot of holes to cover. In the absence of Quinton de Kock, both Sharma and Ishan Kishan will have to go all guns blazing at the top.

It is understandable that Mumbai have spent so much for Kishan as he not only provides an opening option, a left-hand option, a wicket keeping option, but is also a local player and helps balance the XI.

Mumbai though will need the expertise of their most expensive overseas allrounder, Singapore's Tim David to play a role for them. Mumbai do have Mayank Markande, Fabian Allen and Murugan Ashwin but the team might struggle in the absence of a premier spin bowling option.
