IPL 2022 SRH vs PBKS, 70th Match Preview: Pride to play for with both teams already out of contention
Both Sunrisers Hyderabad and Punjab Kings will look to hand out opportunities to their fringe players.
SRH, PBKS in the same boat
The two teams have no chance of making it to the playoffs. Punjab are placed at the 7th spot with 6 victories from 13 matches. Sunrisers Hyderabad have the same numbers albeit with a slightly inferior net run rate.
Hyderabad finally registered a victory in their last match, breaking their streak of 5 losses by beating Mumbai Indians in a close match by 3 runs.
They were expecting Royal Challengers Bangalore and Delhi Capitals to lose their matches for them to miraculously qualify with just 7 wins, but that won't be the case now.
Punjab Kings did not help themselves either by losing their last match against Delhi Capitals by 17 runs.
The team will like to take this opportunity to give a few chances to their fringe players like Sandeep Sharma, Shahrukh Khan, Prabhsimran Singh, Odean Smith, Benny Howell, Baltej Singh, Writtick Chatterjee, Prerak Mankad, Ishan Porel, Atharva Taide, Nathan Ellis, Vaibhav Arora, Ansh Patel and Raj Bawa.
Game time for Shahrukh Khan, Benny Howell
One would like to see Shahrukh Khan, Benny Howell and Raj Bawa get opportunities. While Shahrukh Khan is best known for his big hitting and finishing capability, Benny Howell has made a name with his assortment of variations. Under-19 sensation Raj Bawa also needs a longer rope to prove his credentials.
Sunrisers Hyderabad captain Kane Williamson, who had a forgettable season managing just 216 runs from 13 matches at an average of 19.63 and a strike rate of 93.5, with the best of 57, has gone back to New Zealand for the birth of his child. Bhuvneshwar Kumar is expected to take up the Hyderabad captaincy in their last match of IPL 2022 .
With Williamson unavailable, SRH must play Abdul Samad
The team currently has Sean Abbott, Ravikumar Samarth, Shreyas Gopal, Jagadeesha Suchith, Glenn Phillips, Vishnu Vinod, Kartik Tyagi, Romario Shepherd, Abdul Samad and Sushant Mishra on the bench.
With Williamson vacating a spot, Hyderabad can give an opportunity to one of the retained players Abdul Samad, who has shown a lot of potential over the last couple of years.
