IPL 2023, Match 62, Gujarat Titans vs Sunrisers Hyderabad: Gujarat become first team to qualify for playoffs

Gujarat Giants produced a stunning performance as they thumped Sunrisers Hyderabad by 34 runs at the Narendra Modi International Stadium in Ahmedabad on Monday.
Asked to bat first, the hosts posted 188 for nine in their quota of 20 overs whereas Aiden Markram-led side could manage just runs 154 for nine and got eliminated from the tournament.
Shubman Gill was the star for Gujarat Titans as he smashed his maiden ton in the IPL. He ended with a score of 101 and also shared an outstanding 147 run partnership for the second wicket with Sai Sudharsan, who scored 47 runs. However, no other batter apart from these two could get going and cross the 10-run mark. But based on two superb knocks they posted a total of 188 runs on the board. For Sunrisers Hyderabad, Bhuvneshwar Kumar was the pick of bowlers as he picked his second fifer in the league and ended with figures of five for 30.
In their response, Sunrisers Hyderabad had the worst possible start as they lost Anmolpreet Singh (5), Abhishek Sharma (4), Rahul Tripathi (1) and Aiden Markram (10) inside the first overs and were tottering at 29 for four. Things got, even more, worse when they lost Sanvir Singh (7) and Abdul Samad (4) to see them at 49 for six. Heinrich Klaasen (64 off 44) then led the fight back for his side and along with Bhuvneshwar Kumar (27 off 26) struck 68 runs partnership. But the disappointing start ruined their chances as they could manage just 154 runs and fell short by 34 runs. For Gujarat, the best bowlers were Mohammed Shami (4-20) and Mohit Sharma (4-28).
