IPL 2023, Match 69, Mumbai Indians vs Sunrisers Hyderabad: Green's blitz pushes Mumbai into contention

Mumbai Indians are still alive in the IPL 2023 and are very much in yen contention for the playoffs.

The reason behind this was their enthralling performance against Sunrises Hyderabad at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Sunday (21st May). Asked to bat first, the Orange Army posted a total of 200 for five while on the other hand, the five-time champion chased the target in 18 overs and managed 201 runs.

Sunrises Hyderabad took full advantage of the good batting conditions at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai as openers Mayank Agarwal and Vivrant Sharma batted superbly. The duo stitched 140 runs for the opening partnership. While Sharma scored 69 runs in 47 balls with the help of nine fours and two sixes, the right-hander blasted 83 runs off 46 balls to go with eight boundaries and four sixes. But after their wickets, Hyderabad couldn’t quite get going and lost wickets at regular intervals, thanks to superb death bowling by Mumbai bowlers. Heinrich Klaasen (18: 13b, 2x4) and Aiden Markram (13 not out: 7b, 1x6) made valuable contributions to take their team to a total of 200 runs. For the home side, Akash Madhwal was the pick of the bowlers with his figure of four for 37.

Chasing the target, Mumbai Indians lost Ishan Kishan (14: 12b, 1x4, 1x6) for just 20 runs. But after that skipper, Rohit Sharma (56: 37b, 8x4, 1x6) and Cameron Green played some entertaining strokes and stitched 128 runs for the second wicket, which put them in the commanding position. The Australian all-rounder went on to smash his maiden century in the IPL. He ended with a score of unbeaten 100 in just 47 balls along with eight boundaries and eight sixes and was supported well by Suryakumar Yadav (25 not out: 16b, 4x4) as Mumbai completed a dominant eight wicket win.
