Typhoons v Scorchers

Mary-Anne Musonda scored an unbeaten 71 as the Scorchers beat the previously unbeaten Typhoons by 25 runs. Her opening partnership of 58 set Lewis the platform for the victory before Gaby was bowled by Freya Sargent in the 11th over. The Zimbabwean captain never lost her composure, even if she was a little fortunate, as the Typhons dropped her on four separate occasions.

Scorchers v Typhoons, Oak Hill Cricket Ground, Wicklow, 21 May 2023

Scorchers 121-3 (20 overs; M Musonda 71*, G Lewis 20; A Canning 1-20)

Typhoons 96 (19.2 overs: M Waldron 16, R Stokell 15; S MacMahon 5-12)

Scorchers won by 25 runs

Ava Canning was the most economical of the Typhoons bowlers with 1-22 as the Scorchers went on to post 121-3.

In the reply, the Scorchers bowling attack struck early and often. The biggest Typhoons partnership was the opening pair, as Louis Little and Robyn Searle scored 24 runs.

The Typhoons batters could not contain Sophie MacMahon and Ellie McGee, who took eight wickets between them, with MacMahon taking a brilliant five-fer for the loss of just twelve runs.

Four wickets in nine balls late in their innings proved the Typhoons undoing, as they were eventually bowled out for 96 with four balls remaining.

Typhoons v Dragons

The Typhoons struggled in the opening overs, with Louise Little and Robyn Searle back in the pavilion early on 10-2. Sarah Forbes followed shortly after before a 78-run fourth wicket partnership between Mary Waldron and Georgia Atkinson catapulted them to 113-5 at the end of the innings. Arlene Kelly was the best of the Dragons bowling unit, with 2-12 from her four overs, while Alana Dalzell, Kate McEvoy and Leah Paul each took wickets.

Typhoons 113-5 (20 overs; G Atkinson 43, M Waldron 40*; 2-12 A Kelly)

Dragons 114-5 (19.4 overs; A Hunter 46*, B Armstrong 22; L Little 2-24)

Result - Dragons won by 5 wickets.

The Dragons chase started slowly, with openers Bella Armstrong and Amy Hunter displaying patience at the crease. The pair went on to post 44 for the first wicket, Armstrong the to fall just beyond the mid-way point of the innings. Cara Murray came in at number three, following her 115 not out for her club Waringstown during the week, but an unfortunate mix-up with partner Hunter, saw Murray run out for just eight.

With just 20 balls remaining, 32 runs required, Alana Dalzell came to the crease and sensationally scored 14 off 11 balls to get the Dragons back in contention. Although caught and bowled by Georgina Dempsey, Dalzell had done enough, and her replacement Mollie Devine secured the remaining winning runs as the Dragons won by five wickets with two balls to spare.
