Women's Quadrangular Series, Third-Place Play-off, Potchefstroom

Laura Delany and Shauna Kavanagh scored knocks of 81 and 67 respectively while Aoife Beggs picked a five-wicket haul as Ireland Women won the third place play-off in the Women's Quadrangular Series against Zimbabwe Women in Potchefstroom.

Ireland won the toss and opted to bat first. Loren Tshuma (2-27) had a hold of both the Ireland openers dismissing them cheaply but Delany (81) had a 42 run stand with Gaby Lewis (33) for the third wicket and another 130 run stand for the fourth wicket with Kavanagh (67).

Zimbabwe bowlers were all over the park as Ireland managed their highest score in the tournament of 254 for five in the 50 overs.

Tshuma (6) was run out early but Chipo Mugeri (57) and Modester Mupachikwa (54) added a 115 run stand for the second wicket to get the momentum going for Zimbabwe.

Leah Paul (1-13) provided some respite for Ireland with the wicket of Mugeri while Beggs (5-52) got her first wicket accounting for Mupachikwa. Mary-Anne Musonda (32) and Pellagia Mujaji (31) tried to keep the fight going but Beggs ensured Zimbabwe were bowled out for 235 with her five wicket haul.

This was also Ireland's first win in the tournament and could have not come at the right time as they went on to claim the third position with Beggs winning the player of the match award.
