New Zealand have recalled leg-spinner Ish Sodhi in the One-Day International squad for the series against India after leg-spinner Todd Astle has been ruled out of the tour with a groin injury.
Astle, who has played two apiece of Tests and Twenty20 Internationals for the Black Caps was all set to make his debut in the 50-over format after spending valuable time with the New Zealand A squad in their tour of India.
However, the 31-year-old will now head back home after sustaining a groin injury during the warm-up game against Indian Board President's XI in Mumbai on Tuesday where he bowled just three deliveries.
The news was confirmed by head coach Mike Hesson in a statement released by the New Zealand board.
"Todd was really impressive in the recent New Zealand ‘A’ tour over here and had done everything he possibly could to get himself ready for this series," said Hesson.
"He deserved this opportunity and everyone in the team is certainly feeling for Todd. He’ll return to New Zealand and get himself ready for a big summer."
Sodhi has played 19 ODIs for New Zealand from 18 games with his last appearance in the format coming in May this year.
