New Zealand leg-spinner Todd Astle will miss the second and final Test against England in Christchurch due to an injury.

Astle, who impressed with figures of 39 for three in the only innings he bowled during the day-night Auckland Test suffered a side-strain and now has been replaced by Ish Sodhi.

Sodhi, last played for the Black Caps during New Zealand's tour of India in September 2016 and has picked 38 wickets from 14 matches until now.

New Zealand coach Mike Hesson expressed disappointment on the news on Astle especially after his performance in Auckland.

"Through some incredibly hard work, Todd's already overcome some injuries this summer," he said.

"Todd played a major role in helping us win the game at Eden Park, so it's disappointing for Todd and the team that he's forced to the sideline ahead of Friday."

New Zealand currently have a 1-0 unassailable lead in the series with the second and final Test kicking off on 30th March at Hagley Oval.
