England leg-spinner Mason Crane will miss the upcoming two-Test series against New Zealand after sustaining a stress fracture on his back.

Crane, who made his Test debut against Australia in the Ashes series in Australia where he registered figures of 193 for one felt discomfort earlier this week and has headed back home according to a statement released by the England and Wales Cricket Board.

"The scan results have shown he has a partial stress fracture of the back, we've caught it relatively early so unfortunately, he's going home," said England bowling coach Chris Silverwood.

"Like anybody would be, he's a little bit upset he's going home but that's life and part and parcel of professional sport."

Meanwhile, Somerset left-arm-spinner Jack Leach, who claimed 18 wickets for England Lions in the three first-class games against Windies A has been named as the replacement for Crane.

The two Tests will be played between 22nd March and 3rd April with the first Test in Auckland being a day-night encounter.
