James Neesham to miss first Test due to rib injury
After the injury, Neesham took a limited part in the warm-up fixture against Mumbai where he only bowled five overs and was unable to bat.
However, New Zealand coach Mike Hesson confirmed that the injury was short term and further detailed that the 26-year-old picked up the blow when he was struck in the nets.
“Jimmy was struck in the nets and has been in discomfort the last few days,” he said.
“It will take a few days for the bruising to go away, but it’s very much a short-term injury.”
Since Neesham is expected to be fit in time for the second Test in Kolkata, the New Zealand team management have not requested for a replacement.
The first Test between India and New Zealand will get underway on 22nd September at Green Park in Kanpur.
