Young pace bowler James Weighell has extended his stay at Durham County Cricket Club after signing a two year contract extension.
The 23-year-old featured in four County Championship Division Two matches last season in which he scored 162 runs at an average of 40.50 and snared 11 wickets as well. His standout performance though came in the Royal London One-Day Cup where he picked 18 scalps at an economy of 6.30.
Even in the Natwest T20 Blast 2017, Weighell impressed with nine wickets with best figures of 28 for three.
“I’m delighted to have signed an extension with Durham and excited to help the Club challenge for silverware,” Weighell said.
“I feel happy with the progress I have made and feel I can now continue to develop my skills across all formats.
“It’s great to be able to play cricket with such a strong group of lads and I’m looking forward to the new season.”
Head Coach Jon Lewis, added: “We’ve been impressed with James’ development with both bat and ball and feel he can offer a lot to our bowling attack in red and white ball cricket.
