Uncapped Gujarat fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah has been added to the Indian Twenty20 International squad in place of the injured Mohammad Shami to face Australia.

Bumrah is slated to leave for Australia on 22nd January along with Yuvraj Singh, Harbhajan Singh, Hardik Pandya, Suresh Raina and Ashish Nehra.

In the ongoing edition of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, Bumrah has managed to pick 14 wickets from nine matches for Gujarat, standing to be the joint-highest wicket-taker in the competition.

Earlier, former Indian fast bowler RP Singh, who played for Gujarat in this domestic season said after the completion of the Vijay Hazare Trophy final that Bumrah is ready for a national call-up.

“He (Jasprit Bumrah) has got a bit of pace.

“He has got a superb yorker, he got even MS (Dhoni) out with a yorker.

“The other thing is that his action gives him a bit of an advantage, it takes people a little bit of time to pick him.”

Having made his T20 debut in 2013, Bumrah has 52 wickets at an average of 24.53 from the 47 matches he has played till date.

Shami on the other hand is currently undergoing his rehabilitation from a Grade II hamstring injury he suffered in Australia and is expected to be out of action for about six weeks.
