The Secretary of State for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport Jeremy Wright comments on Alastair Cook's retirement from international cricket.

"In becoming England's most-capped player, highest run-scorer and an Ashes-winning captain, Alastair Cook can look back on an illustrious international career. 

 "His leadership and record-breaking achievements have secured his place in the history books and I know he will continue to inspire many people to get involved in the game."

As England's highest-scoring batsman Alastair Cook had a prolific batting career, making 12,254 runs including 32 centuries. He played in 160 Tests and amassed 12,254 runs, 32 centuries, 56 half centuries - including 1420 fours and 11 sixes.
