He took 3-34 as the home side made 9-201 declared, conceding a first innings lead of 65, before the Australians extended that advantage up to the close of play, finishing the day on 1-92, an overall lead of 157.

The next Test in Australia’s five-match series on the Qantas Tour of the UK is at Lord’s, starting next Wednesday, with further matches at Headingley, Old Trafford and The Oval. Australia holds the Ashes after a 4-0 series win at home in the summer of 2017-18. It also leads the 2019 series 1-0 after a 251-run win in the opening Test at Edgbaston.
