Karachi Kings maintain winning run as Lahore Qalandars lose another game
Karachi Kings 159-7 (Bopara 50no) beat
Lahore Qalandars 132 (Afridi 3-19) by 27 runs
8th game, Pakistan Super League, Dubai
After Ravi Bopara scored an unbeaten half-century, a collective bowling effort from Karachi Kings saw them complete a 27-run victory over Lahore Qalandars in the eighth game of the Pakistan Super League in Dubai.
This is Karachi's third win of the season as they maintained their position at the top while Lahore Qalandars are reeling at the bottom.
Karachi won the toss and decided to bat first. Joe Denly (28) started the proceedings with five boundaries and a six in the 14 deliveries he faced before after he top-edged a Yasir Shah (2-25) delivery.
Lahore Qalandars immediately capitalised on the opening as Sunil Narine (2-18) and Mustafizur Rahman (1-22) accounted for Khurram Manzoor (8) and Babar Azam (0) to leave Karachi reeling at 36 for three.
The innings was consolidated by Colin Ingram (28) and Bopara (50 not out) with their 50-run stand for the fourth wicket before Shah returned back to have the former caught behind.
Nevertheless, Bopara continued his good run in the season and with brief support from Imad Wasim (15) and Mohammad Irfan (16 not out) helped Karachi post 159 for seven in the 20 overs, last two overs alone yielding 31 runs. He also hit a six in the last ball of the innings to complete his half-century.
In the chase Narine (0) fell in the second delivery but Brendon McCullum (44) kept Lahore's hope alive scoring most of the 69-run stand for the second wicket partnership with Fakhar Zaman (19) but once he fell, the innings collapsed.
Usman Khan (3-26), Tymal Mills (2-33), Afridi (3-19) were the wrecker in chief as Karachi bowled out Lahore for 132 runs to complete a 27-run victory. Afridi claimed the man of the match award for his three-wicket haul.
