Kevin Pietersen has confirmed that he has played his last professional game in England following Surrey's Natwest T20 Blast campaign this summer.

The 37-year-old was re-signed by Surrey for the high profile T20 competition but his appearance was limited to two games after he sustained a calf-injury during the game against Middlesex last month.

Pietersen, who last played an international game for England in 2014, confirmed the news on the social media platform Twitter.

"Surrey's loss last night means the end of career in England. What an amazing journey," he posted on Twitter.

"Thank you, Notts, Hants, Surrey, ECB & supporters!"

In the two games, Pietersen managed just 56 runs and scored a fifty in it as well and his hopes of finishing the tournament on a high faded when Surrey lost to Warwickshire by six wickets in the fourth quarter final at Kennington Oval.
