Former England batsman Kevin Pietersen has withdrawn himself from the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2017 auction.

The 36-year-old was part of the Rising Pune Supergiants franchise during the 2016 edition but featured in just four games before a calf injury cut short his tournament. He was later released from the team in December leading to the auction process.

However, Pietersen has decided to pull out from the tournament citing his busy schedule.

"I won't be going into the IPL auction," Pietersen said on Twitter.

"My winter has been too busy with all my travel & I don't want to spend April/May away too!"

Earlier in the week, Pietersen was slammed with a fine of $3,824 by Cricket Australia for his comment on an umpiring decision during the recently concluded Big Bash League tournament.

Following his exclusion from England team, apart from IPL, Pietersen had also been a part of local Twenty20 tournament in South Africa, Big Bash League and also the Quetta Gladiators team in Pakistan Super League.

The IPL auction has been scheduled in Bangalore on 20th February with more than 750 players registered in it and the tournament is set to begin on 5th April.
