Khulna flex batting muscle to overpower Rajshahi
Khulna Titans 213-5 (Pooran 57) beat
Rajshahi Kings 145 (Shafiul 5-26) by 68 runs
30th game, Bangladesh Premier League, Chittagong
Afif Hossain and Nicholas Pooran scored half-centuries while Shafiul Islam picked a five wicket haul as Khulna Titans completed a 68 run victory against Rajshahi Kings in the 30th game of the Bangladesh Premier League in Chittagong.
Rajshahi won the toss and elected to bowl first. Nazmul Hossain (49) scored three boundaries in the first four overs but an indecision in running led to the run out of Rilee Rossouw (6).
Despite the setback, Nazmul continued the onslaught to take Khulna Titans to 47 for one in the powerplay. However, he fell one run short of a half-century after trapped LBW by James Franklin (3-50), who also removed Mahmudullah (1).
Nevertheless, an 88 run stand between Afif (54 not out) and Pooran (57) off just 43 deliveries gave the right momentum with both the batsmen crossing half-century mark. A 14-ball impetus from Carlos Brathwaite (34) provided the late flourish to the innings to lift the innings to 213 for five in the 20 overs.
In the chase, Rajshahi never looked in the game with only Rony Talukdar (36) showed some fight but a five wicket haul from Shafiul (5-26) ensured they could manage only 145 runs before they were bowled out in 19 overs.
