Kieron Pollard spoke to the media after the second T20 - West Indies vs Afghanistan 2nd T20
West Indies captain Kieron Pollard spoke to members of the media after the second T20 International against Afghanistan at the Ekana Cricket Stadium. West Indies lost the match by 41 runs as the hosts levelled the series 1-1. This has now set up a virtual final in the third match on Sunday night at the same venue.
Match scores: West Indies 164-5 off 20 overs (Evin Lewis 68, Kieron Pollard 32 not out; Gulbadin Naib 2-24) Afghanistan 134-9 off 20 overs (Najibullah Zadran 27, Asghar Afghan 25; Kesrick Williams 3-17, Kieron Pollard 2-17, Hayden Walsh Jr 2-34)
Asked to make 148 to win, West Indies reached 106-8 off their 20 overs. They fell to a magical spell from seamer Karim Janat who had career-best 5-11 off four overs – the best figures for his country against West Indies. Wicket-keeper Denesh Ramdin, topscored with 24 not out, but he was the only West Indies batman to reach 20.
Earlier in the match, Kesrick Williams was again excellent with 3-22 off four overs to follow up his 3-17 in the first match. He removed both openers off consecutive balls in the fifth over – Ramanullah Gurbaz caught at deep mid-on by Pollard and Hazratullah Zazai to a sharp catch by Brandon King at point.
Jason Holder went for 16 runs in the first over of the innings, but rebounded to finish with 2-23 off four overs. One of his wickets was the Asghar Afghan who was superbly caught in the left glove by Ramdin down the legside as he tried to hook. Keemo Paul was also impressive with 2-28 after being called up to replace Fabien Allen, who was ruled out with a knee injury.
