Kings XI Punjab confirm Ravichandran Ashwin as captain for 2018 season
The 31-year-old, who was picked up by the franchise during the recently concluded auction will take over the reins from Glenn Maxwell, who moves to the Delhi Daredevils.
It will also be the first time Ashwin will lead a side in the history of the tournament but has prior experience of captaining his state team Tamil Nadu on numerous occasions.
"There is no additional pressure on me as such. I first led my state side in first class cricket when I was 21," said Ashwin to the team website.
I have done it in the past and I am sure that I will enjoy the challenge.
"I feel honoured to be trusted with the responsibility of leading such a talented bunch of cricketers.
"I am confident of bringing out the best out of team mates. This is indeed a proud moment for me."
Ashwin has played 111 matches in the IPL and has managed 100 wickets in it with an economy of 6.55.
Kings XI Punjab will open their campaign with a clash against Delhi Daredevils on 8th April at Feroz Shah Kotla.
