Kumar, Dhawan released from Indian squad for personal reasons
India's star performers in the first Test against Sri Lanka at Eden Gardens Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Shikhar Dhawan have been released from the squad for the second game due to personal reasons.
Bhuvneshwar was India's best bowler on display as he claimed a total of eight wickets in the game, including figures of 8 for four in the second innings while Dhawan slammed a blistering 94 in the second innings to lead India's fightback.
Bhuvneshwar confirmed in a video posted in the social media that he is getting married and India have called up pace bowler Vijay Shankar in the squad as replacement while Dhawan's place in the side is expected to be taken by Murali Vijay, who is already present in the squad.
“Kumar will not take any further part in the ongoing test series against Sri Lanka and the all-India senior selection committee has named Vijay Shankar as his replacement,” the BCCI said in a statement late on Monday.
“Dhawan is available for selection for the third test.”
The second Test of the series will kick-off on Friday in Nagpur.
