Kusal Perera faces four-year ban
Sports minister of Sri Lanka Dayasiri Jayasekera revealed on Friday that the 25-year-old's 'B' sample was also tested positive by the ICC.
Earlier, Perera was withdrawn from the New Zealand tour after failing a drug test which was conducted during Pakistan's tour of Sri Lanka in October following which his 'B' sample was tested as per the guidelines of the ICC.
"The ICC has informed that his B sample also has been tested positive for a banned drug," Sri Lanka sports minister Jayasekera told the reporters.
"We are appealing against this because he was never found like this in the last four instances.
"We will back him with legal representation while making every possible effort to help him to get out of this issue."
Perera now will face a maximum ban of four years according to the anti-doping code of ICC.
This will be a big blow for Perera as the swashbuckling wicket-keeper batsman had just started to establish himself in the longer format with two half-centuries in three Tests.
Also with the ICC World Twenty20 tournament around the corner, Sri Lanka will be missing the services of the hard-hitting left-hander at the top of the order.
