Kusal Perera out of New Zealand tour after failing dope test
The random drug test was conducted during Pakistan's tour of Sri Lanka and the action was taken immediately after the results were made available.
An official statement by Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) said that the board will follow the regulations of the International Cricket Council (ICC) and facilitate a retest with a B sample.
“In view of this and in terms of the applicable ICC regulations, SLC has recalled Perera from New Zealand,” said the SLC statement.
To replace Perera, Sri Lanka have selected the 29-year-old wicket-keeper batsman Kaushal Silva, who is yet to make his limited overs debut.
Perera is the second Sri Lankan international cricketer to be tested positive for a banned substance after Upul Tharanga who failed the test during the 2011 World Cup and was suspended for three months.
Sri Lanka are scheduled to play two Test matches, five One-Day Internationals and two Twenty20 Internationals in their ongoing tour of New Zealand
