Lancashire Ready For Champions Essex In Pro40 Opener

Lancashire Lightning start their 2007 NatWest Pro40 League campaign on Sunday at Old Trafford against the defending Champions the Essex Eagles. Cricket Manager Mike Watkinson has a selection dilemma of a different kind ahead of the match, with both Dominic Cork (groin) and Glen Chapple (hamstring) returning from injury after missing the Twenty20 Cup group stages. Although Cork played against Yorkshire in the LV County Championship this week, Chapple is hoping that a scan today will give him the all clear to take part in a warm up match this evening ahead of Sunday’s Pro40 fixture. Sunday’s match will also be the last home appearance of Sanath Jayasuriya who returns to Colombo next week to take part in Sri Lanka’s One Day Series against Bangladesh. It’s unfortunate that the former Sri Lankan captain hasn’t seen a day without rain during his 4-week stay, but his performances with both bat and ball in the Twenty20 Cup and influence in the Dressing Room will leave a lasting impression at Lancashire.
