Lancashire County Cricket Club (LCCC) is pleased to announce that they have chosen Christie's as their charity partner for 2009.  Christie’s raises money for The Christie in Manchester which is one of the largest cancer treatment centres in Europe, treating more than 40,000 patients every year.

Throughout the year, Lancashire will conduct a series of activities that will help generate awareness for the work The Christie do and also raise funds which will go towards a new £35 million patient treatment centre which will be home to the largest clinical trials unit in the world, an expanded chemotherapy department, and a new private patients unit, income from which will help to fund future Christie developments.

The club already has plans for lots of exciting activities including a “Christie’s Day” during Lancashire’s home Pro40 League match against Derbyshire on 19th July, participation in a Charity Bike Ride from Manchester to Blackpool, a “Cricket Challenge 6-a-side Competition Day” for corporate businesses, bucket collections and much more.

Commenting on the new partnership, Lancashire's Commercial Director Geoff Durbin said;
“In previous years, Lancashire County Cricket Club has supported several charities during a season, but in 2009 we have chosen to pool our resources and help make a significant contribution to one of the North West’s leading charities.  All our supporters will know someone who has been helped by the fantastic work The Christie does on a daily basis, and hopefully through a series of fundraising events the club has planned this year, we can raise additional funds so The Christie can continue their life changing work.”

Christie’s Head of Corporate Fundraising Laura Baynham-Hughes said; “We’re delighted to be working so closely with Lancashire County Cricket Club. They have great ideas, and terrific enthusiasm.  They also have wonderful facilities and if any of our fundraisers are interested in using the club as a venue for a fundraising event, please contact the Corporate Partnerships Team at The Christie, on 0161 918 7396 and we’ll put you in touch with the team at LCCC.”

LCCC Captain Glen Chapple; “I was delighted to hear that the club had chosen Christie’s to support during the forthcoming season.  The Christie provides a vital service for not only the North West community but to people throughout the UK.  I know LCCC and Christie’s have some fantastic events organised in 2009, and I urge all our supporters to get behind this partnership and help the club to raise much needed funds for The Christie.”
