Levy UK, through a joint venture with Surrey CCC, has delivered all the food and hospitality services to 250,000 cricket fans and event delegates that visit the Kia Oval each year since 2004.

This weekend, Levy supported the Kia Oval as one of the first venues selected by the government to host a pilot event to help enable the return of return of spectators to elite sports venues.  The two-day friendly match between Surrey and Middlesex, on Sunday 26th and Monday 27th July saw the limited return of 2,000 members, across both days, to the ground to evaluate the government’s ‘stage five’ guidance on the return of fans to top-level sporting events.

During this pilot event, the Levy team opened key F&B outlets at the venue including SE11 Grill, Vauxhall Pie Shop, Wanderers Bar, Cricketers Bar to provide fans with an authentic match day experience.

Jon Davies, Managing Director, Levy UK commented:

"I have been as eager as anyone to see the full return of fans to our sporting venues, but this must be done in a way that is safe both for the public and for our teams working at venues to deliver an unforgettable match day experience. Ahead of this first pilot event at the Kia Oval, Levy has been working tirelessly with Surrey CCC, Public Health England, the Sports Grounds Safety Authority and others, to develop a new set of working practices that deliver against the official guidance. I am immensely encouraged and proud of the Levy team for successfully stress-testing our new procedures in a live setting and safely serving over 2,000 members over the past two-days at the Kia Oval. It’s been heartening to see the smiles on the faces of fans again as they enjoy our award-winning F&B and hospitality and the long overdue return of live cricket at such an iconic venue.”

Davies continued: “We will of course be identifying lessons learned from this test event and future scheduled pilot events at Levy venues in the coming weeks and then working closely with health and sporting authorities to see if best-practice can be strengthened even further to allow supporters to return safely to sporting venues as soon as practically possible.”

Richard Gould, Chief Executive at Surrey CCC commented:

“Superb food and drink and the highest quality hospitality are central to the match day experience we offer our members at the Kia Oval. We recognise the responsibility in being chosen as one of the first elite sporting venues to welcome back supporters and that responsibility has been shared by the Levy team every step of the way.  From enhanced hygiene measures at the venue, clear and simple social distancing measures at our F&B outlets, to the use of contactless payment technology, Levy had developed a clear action plan for this event.  Their dedicated team was able to execute against this plan with their usual precision and dedication.  We have learned a lot and we will be working with Levy to deliver the safest and best supporter experience as we look to welcome back supporters at full capacity at the Kia Oval soon.”
